2020 has been an interesting year, and everyone is asking what comes next. These are the main points from our conversation.

Pick one cause and give it your time. Human trafficking, here at home and around the world, is one of the hardest topics this year. There are many worthy causes, and the internet will flood you with them. Choose one you care about and stay with it. Research any organization before you give, so you know your money does what it says. If money is tight, give time. Answer phones, help with chat, or use whatever skills you have.

Talk with respect. The country feels divided, and we expect some social unrest around the election, whoever wins. You do not have to convince anyone you are right. It is okay to disagree. We need conversations, not mudslinging.

Business needs values. Many communities have been hurt when companies put the bottom line ahead of their employees and neighbors. Free enterprise brings affordability, innovation and opportunity. It works best when businesses support the people around them.

Think for yourself online. We are flooded with information, and a lot of it is built to stir up anger. Check where a claim comes from before you share it. Social media is hard to leave because we built communities there, but remember that you are giving those platforms your data.

Be ready and aware. Keep your children close, do not go out alone if you can help it, and bring a friend, because even a trained person can be outnumbered. Keep a barrier between the road and your front door, and keep defensive tools you are trained to use. Go to the polls with a friend, and have your preparations in place at home.
