Re-establish Your Food and Water Supply

Water

  • Get it wherever you can in the short term. Use a filter.

  • A river, lake, stream or underground source is best.

  • A spring is the most private source.

  • Know how to filter and distill.

Food

  • You will be hunting, gathering and trapping

  • Bait the game, feed the game well, and protect your game from others.

  • Boar and rabbits will be your best source.

  • Blood letting - taking blood from animal for protein. Animal must be fed well and you must ensure infection does not set in to incision site.

  • Trades needed: builders, hunters, wild foragers, manual laborers, engineers, architects, gardeners, trappers, veterinarians, black smiths, mill builders, lock picking

Build Your Shelters

  • In the beginning you will build your own primitive shelter

  • Eventually you will have to find lumber to build a better shelter.

  • The community will want to have a central meeting area. Does not have to be elaborate but folks will need a place to brainstorm together.

  • Could use clay as a building material it has a high thermal mass.

  • You will need building materials! Especially nails! Stock them now!

  • Trades needed: carpenters, builders, lumberjacks.

Get Your Security Plan in Place

  • Store your ammo is a smart place. If you leave it in a moist, inconsistent temperature area it is going to fail.

  • Get a security detail in force and at work immediately.

  • Train your security people on basics and not wasting ammo.

  • Food needs to be guarded in every stage of production.

  • Never be without a weapon of some kind. Improvise if you have to.

  • Trades needed: skilled shooters, combat experience, snipers, pistol fighting skills, ordinance and explosives training, proficient in military tactics, people that are able to train others how to replicate their skills, gunsmiths, blacksmiths, gun powder producers, radio operators, electronic experts, and lay people to run with the experts and find tactical supplies.

Have a Medical Setup

  • In the short term you will rely upon first aid kits from homes, cars, or personal carry packs. Know your medical basics.

  • In the long term someone from the group will rise as a medic.

  • Set up a clean medical facility.

  • Medicines will run out! Take care of your surgical steal. Know herbal healing basics.

  • Have a procurer -  the guy who can get anything. It will cost! But it will be worth it.

  • Make alcohol to use as a disinfectant.

  • Trades: Nurses, doctors, E.M.T.s, paramedics, first responders, etc.

Power Production

  • Not a necessity but a valuable asset.

  • Short term - use automobiles and inverters. Siphon gas - autos are quieter than generators. Priuses have big battery banks already built in and the engine will start up and shut off.

  • In the long term you will rely upon solar, wind, or hydro it depends on your area.

  • Equipment will break down and you'll need to fix it.

  • Trades: electricians, solar panel engineers and fixers, folks who can get fuel.

  • You need to have a mindset shift and realize that power is not necessary for survival.

  • To get heat use fire and awnings and window overhangs.

  • Stay cool with hand fans, river bathing, fans with wet cloth, vegetation planted in the right areas.

  • Live underground and use wind tunnels.

  • Use a mono-vent system in your building

  • Build a tower to direct heat out of communal areas.
