People of all ages, body types, religions, and skillsets are critical in a long-term survival situation. Food not only needs to be grown and harvested, but it needs to be stored. Quality chefs are required to turn the average rations into delectable dishes that lift spirits. Butchers are necessary to break down meat, and individuals trained in animal husbandry are needed to keep the animals healthy. Tools are required to do all of these things, and people who can work wood and metal will be in high demand.

Water is essential to survival. You can only survive three days without it. Water will need to be located and may require negotiation to secure it. This careful dance requires individuals who can scout and capable communicators to secure it. The water then needs to be purified and or distilled. People trained at distilling help ensure the water is bacteria-free. Still, they can also use the same equipment to produce alcohol. Alcohol is essential medicinally in a survival situation.

Shelters also require a wide variety of individuals to ensure they are correctly built and maintained hygienically. Scavengers are needed to secure supplies. The community will also need individuals skilled at woodworking to make bed platforms, furniture, and more. Security for a community of shelters is of the utmost importance. Individuals with computer skills and fighters that can set up a defensive network and protect that network are essential to maintaining these shelters. People will need clothing, and individuals who can sew and create new blankets and outfits are necessary. Hygiene is of the utmost importance. People who can make soaps and provide basic needs like hair cuts will also be in high demand.

Of course, medically trained individuals are worth their weight in gold. The community will need field medics, doctors, pharmacists, herbal healers, surgeons, dentists, and individuals to assist with psychological health issues.

There is more to a community than the bare necessities. Quality leaders for each department need to be tied together to communicate efficiently and produce maximum outcomes with as few resources as possible. These coordinators are vital to gathering and analyzing information affecting the community on an interior and exterior basis. The leaders will depend on reliable managers to ensure that the individual teams are focused and performing their jobs as requested.
