Go-Bag, Why You Need One!

Updated: Feb 6, 2018

There are many recent examples of why a Go-Bag is essential for every individual to own. Looking back through the year we have had huge mudslides in Washington. Towns in states like Mississippi and Oklahoma continue to be devastated by tornadoes. Just this week we saw massive flooding in Florida and the rest of the south east. There are many more examples that we can discuss. Obviously, disaster can strike anywhere at anytime. It is each individual's responsibility to be ready and make sure their children are ready as well.

Your basic Go-Bag can be your best friend. It should be prepared immediately and stay ready to grab and go in two to five minutes notice. Short term survival should occupy the bulk of its contents but if the situation turns really bad the long term should not be forgotten. Items inside the bag should be streamlined to ensure they are lightweight and easy to carry. What you put in your Go-Bag will vary based on the region you live in and the temperature of that area. Also the contents will vary based on if you live in the city or the country. Finally the age and sex of the individual as well their medical condition will influence the contents. For example, babies will need cloth diapers, women will want to carry feminine hygiene products and anyone with a medical condition should have at least two extra months of their prescription medication.

There are some basics for your Go-Bag that everyone should have. Everyone should carry their own first aid kit. The more kits the merrier. In your Go-Bag you should also have some food. Not too much because you don't want the weight but think about thinks like beef jerky, power bars, canned meat, bag of rice and beans. Think about things that will give you the most nutrition for the least amount of weight. Your Go-Bag should also contain a fire starting kit, a tarp, and a sleeping bag. Finally, you will need tools. Tools can make weapons, catch food, take apart mechanical things that can be of use, and unscrew potential water sources in the city.

The time is now! Get it together so you are not carrying a garbage bag down the street if something were to happen to your town.
