Changing Earth Podcast Ep. 481: Storms, Radios, and Rising Empires
Posted: April 7, 2025
Welcome back, survivors! Episode #481 of the Changing Earth Podcast is live. It’s a raw, wild ride. Sara F. Hathaway and co-host Chin Gibson dodge storms while sharing survival tips. They aim to help you dream, survive, and thrive. Here’s the rundown.
Lost Vegas Years Nears Release
Sara’s been dodging tornadoes while wrapping up Lost Vegas Years, a gritty addition to the Changing Earth saga. “Fans have been on me for years,” she mentioned. After three weeks of writing and a first edit, it’s almost ready. Expect it before Prepper Camp after a bit more polishing. All Changing Earth books are available on Kindle Unlimited and gaining traction. “Don’t just review one—give ‘em all some love,” Sara urged KU readers. She is also breaking barriers on other podcasts with interviews focused on self-defense and real talk—watch for those links!
Chin’s Rugged Radios: Retevis Ailunce HA1UV vs. HD2
Chin geeked out over Retevis.com’s survival-ready Ailunce radios. He reviewed the HA1UV analog ($60) and HD2 digital ($150 on sale). Here’s the breakdown:
HA1UV Analog ($60)
Plusses:
Waterproof (IP67, can handle 3 ft for 30 min)
Tough build (tested to survive drops and still works)
USB-C charging
Loud and crisp speaker
NOAA weather alerts
Keypad programming
$10 off with code R10OFF
Minuses:
No Bluetooth
Lacks digital channels
No wireless sync
5W power limits range
Chin says, “For $60, it’s a bug-out bag must—weather alerts saved my life in a storm.”
HD2 Digital ($150)
Plusses:
10W power (double that of HA1UV)
Bluetooth earbuds with push-to-talk
Digital talk groups (requires an internet connection)
Can switch between analog and digital modes
256-bit encryption option
USB-C charging
Rugged build
R10OFF applies
Minuses:
No weather alert (firmware fix expected)
Digital drops off sharply
Pricier than HA1UV
Needs internet for talk groups
Chin mentions, “I hit a repeater 48 miles away—Bluetooth is excellent for gray-man operations.”
Note: Chin is passing the savings on to you without any kickbacks.
