Many people in the preparedness community have stated that they will eliminate individuals trespassing on their property. Is that the way Americans are going to behave? For those of use with Christian values, this point of view is unthinkable. However, caring for refugees is going to be a huge undertaking. One person alone is not up to the task. The community needs to be involved.

Housing alone is going to be a challenge. With limited individual supplies, welcoming strangers into your home will probably not be a good option. If the community is involved, the town can house them in schools, churches, or community centers.

You are part of your community, and you can help. You can volunteer time from the first day it is needed. Volunteering will help you get to know your community and new potential members of that community. I would advise against donating supplies while government resources are still available. You don’t want to deplete your supplies while other resources are still attainable.

It would be best if you started stocking extra supplies now. As preparedness-minded individuals, we have the responsibility to provide not only for ourselves but for others. Now you may say, “they called me crazy” or “why didn’t they prepare?” Although these statements may be true, nobody wants to live in a dog eats dog world. The more we can provide assistance and instill confidence in our abilities to take care of one another, the less chaos there will be. Selfishness only leads to hatred and destroys the soul.

The first items to think about are bedding. Never throw out old sheets, blankets, or sleeping bags. If you have space, store them. Moving blankets are also exceptional items. Many people are on the move these days. Don’t get rid of those padded blankets; they may come in handy.

Clothing is another critical item to store. If you have children and space to store clothing, don’t discard their clothing or shoes. Children grow fast, and the community will need various sizes to keep young people clothed in the correct proportions. Don’t take adult clothing to goodwill either. If you have space, store it. Others will not be as prepared as you are, and they may need it. Even your clothes will wear out, and you may need some alternate options. Clothing alteration can make many different sizes. You can use Clothing scraps to make other clothes, rugs, rags, and blankets.

Food is going to be a very precious supply. Everyone needs to eat. Ration bars are an excellent option for stocking mass quantities of food. Store things you may not like to eat; that way, you will not mind giving it away. Start thinking about community gardens now. These will be highly valued resources.

Store as many seeds and gardening tools as you can. Don’t discard old tools. You can replace handles, and refurbish the metal. If you can provide an individual with the ways and means to grow their own food, you will have a friend forever.

Collect as many five gallon buckets as possible and store them out of the sunlight. Buckets come in handy for many things. One of the most important uses is the ability to use them to make water purifiers.

Don’t discard old cookery if it is in some type of good working order. Put these items to use. The same goes for plates, cutlery, utensils, and most other kitchen tools. If you are replacing your grill with a new one, save the old grill grates. The grates come in handy for cooking over fires.

One of the most important things you will be able to provide these refugees is prayers and your time. As preparedness-minded individuals, we have been learning skills that many other people have not. Share your knowledge and empower others to rely on themselves, rather than community aid.

When do you start donating your supplies? This question is up to you. Many Christians would say right away. In his book Absolute Anarchy, Johnny Jacks advises waiting until after the die-off when the country enters a state of total anarchy. There is no avoiding the die-off if society collapses. Many people depend on medications to keep their bodies alive. There will not be enough food to save everyone. Sadly, many people have not prepared and won’t have the necessary skills to survive.

Another good time to give is when you need something yourself. You can trade supplies for the care of a doctor or a dentist. Maybe you will need other people to join you and help with protection. Being able to provide for them will be essential.
