If disaster strikes the nation, the US will have to perform national triage. According to Webster's dictionary, triage is "the sorting of and allocation of treatment to patients and especially battle and disaster victims according to a system of priorities designed to maximize the number of survivors." In other words, resources will have to be carefully allocated according to what areas can be saved. Others will be cut off from assistance.
