Major quakes are possible anywhere in the world. The denser populations of humans increase the potential for more catastrophic disasters. Some areas of continents are more earthquake-prone, but often these areas have a fractured plate system, making it easier for the earth to absorb the movement. Other areas of the planet have large plates. When quakes happen in these areas, a much more significant portion of geography is affected. Science has proven that earthquake movement spreads around the earth and much more intensely around the “ring of fire,” an area surrounding the pacific ocean.
